I just wanted to let you know how Bijou is doing, I contacted you awhile back due to concern over her recent weight gain. she's gradually losing weight, has become much more active and I'm so pleased. She has lost most of the excess fat that was beginning to form those hateful fat pads over the eyes that can be so devastating to their vision. She is so much happier since she's more active, getting close to the condition she was in for the first 9 !/2 years of her life. Thanks for your advice, you were so right when you'd said she wouldn't care so much about the quantity of food as much as the regular feedings at the same times of day.
We love her so much, she's been a wonderful friend. Funny, smart, personable. I treasure days like today when I had to go to work and she hid in the bushes, very quietly with her selective deafness, pretending to be invisible. When she realized I'd found her (usually she answers immediately and comes right away, but hadn't been out long enough to suit her this morning) she gave a big grunt and actually ran toward the horse's barn; away from the house; with her little tail straight up! she hasn't felt well enough to be bratty for a while and I know most of it is from the weight loss due to her diet. Thanks for your encouragement it gave me the confidence to be tough in her behalf.
Someday we'd love to be able to offer safety and shelter to pots in need. After we retire, I think it's a strong probability. I have acreage, am zoned for it and have built a great barn. Bijou is strictly a pampered "housepig" There really isn't anyone in the entire Albuquerque area (that we're aware of anyway, and I've looked) who helps these wonderful creatures. You're so blessed to be able to have so much involvement with them and work for their benefit.
With sincerest appreciation,
Bijou's friend,
Susan
