Adopting our two pot-bellied pig babies has been such a pleasant and fun learning experience thanks to Kathleen, owner of Ponderosa Mini Farm. From Kathleen's immediate response to my first e-mail full of questions to the day Porgy and Bess arrived at the airport in Connecticut, approximately four months later, we could not have asked for more.

The first time I spoke with Kathleen on the telephone, it was obvious she gives the utmost love and care to her pigs. She is a very knowledgeable person, and has the instincts needed to successfully raise pot-bellied pigs. Kathleen is always willing to share her knowledge and experience whenever I call or e-mail her. The thing that really caught my attention in her purchase contract is the fact that if ever a buyer finds they cannot keep their pig and cannot find a suitable home for such pig, they are bound by the contract to return the pet to Kathleen. This told me she really cares for the animals, and is not just in the business for the business.

People have asked me all along why we were getting the pigs from Texas when we live all the way in Connecticut. I say to them it's well worth the peace of mind knowing they are coming from such a loving home. And now that we've had Porgy and Bess with us for three weeks, I can tell you there's no doubt in my mind that Kathleen loved them and cared for them like no one else could have until the day they boarded the plane.

I would highly recommend, without reservation, that anyone looking for a responsible breeder to adopt their piggies from would do well to go directly to Kathleen Plauche at Ponderosa Mini Farm.

Hi Kathleen,
ponporbess.gif - 51461 BytesI just checked out your website first time in a long time. Ruthie's having babies this summer is she? Well I can sure attest that her babies are sweeties! P&B just turned 2 on May 7, can you beleive it? it shot up to near 100 that weekend so they had a pool party and carrot cake on their big day. They are in a wedding in two weeks, I have pigtures of them in their hats. They do have outfits too but I don't have pics of them in those yet.

We found a new vet. This guy is an absolute dream, he spent two hours here, trimmed their feet real nice, trimmed Porgy's tusks (1st time) gave them their shots, spent loads of time with them. He's great.

Anyway just thought you might get a kick out of a couple pigtures of the babies!

Sandy

lydiaporgy.jpg - 25628 Bytes We went to China day after Thanksgiving to get our little Lydia, she turned a year old on January 25. She LOVES the pigs. I don't know how they did it but they gave us a baby with no fear of animals. We took pigtures of them over with us to show her, she smiled at them when we got home. Porgy is great with her, although we don't leave her on the floor when P&B are up and about, just don't totally trust that scene. But she's given Porgy supervised belly rubs, so cute. Bessie - well Bessie is Bessie and she'll always be a bit high strung. She has snapped at Lydia's feet a couple times when she's in the highchair, so I have to watch carefully and stop her when I know she's going to do it. P&B are getting way more attention than they used to becuase I am home full time now, so I don't know that jealousy would be a factor.

P&B bday 2001-5.jpg - 60146 BytesHi Kathleen,

Yesterday was P&B's third birthday, can you believe it? Do you hear from their other two siblings? Hope they are doing well. Of course we had carrot cake last night and Lydia wanted to join in the fun. Here's a couple pics!

Hi Kathleen,

lydiapbeaster.jpg - 51002 BytesWanted to show you these pics. You may remember I made these hats for P&B when they were a year old (and a tad smaller!)

This year they enjoyed Easter with Lydia. Bessie has become Lydia's best buddy, much to our shock and surprise! Porgy would like to dominate Lydia so we watch him carefully. His snout is out of joint because Bess is top pig, but he gets extra attention from me to counter that. enjoy!

pbbirthday4.gif - 26812 BytesHi Everyone,

Our mom had our 4th Birthday Party for us last night and we had cake! Of course we had to wear stupid hats too :(
Here's our pigtures.

Love,

Hi Kathleen,

How are you? Long time no talk to! P&B are doing much better. You may remember I was having trouble with them fighting for a long, long time which resulted in Porgy throwing up all the time. poor fella. Our vet gave me amitriptyline for Bessie, which stopped her aggression, which stopped Porgy's problems. I have taken some weight off of them also. they still have their little spats and play little head games with each other but they are doing much better.

How are things down there? it's getting cold up here, I dread winter! P&B dread it also. Porgy especially. Bessie is a tomboy piggie, Porgy is more of a wussie boy! he comes running right back inside a lot of the times but Bess will stay out. funny creatures, they still crack me up every day! can you believe they are 5-1/2???

Sandy (hope you had a nice thanksgiving!)
