The National Potbellied Pig Registry is committed to providing timely, accurate registration for all potbelly pigs, which includes the registration of purebred potbelly pigs, with continuous registration of all parent; and potbelly pigs whose parents have not been previously registered.
NPPR seeks to serve the Potbellied Pig Shelter and Sanctuary, and their clients who may face zoning restrictions by providing applications for Temporary and Permanent Registration for previously unregistered potbellied pigs. Any shelter, sanctuary or institution that cares for a potbellied pig can make this application for Temporary Registration. NPPR will evaluate each pig’s conformational characteristics plus age, weight and height statistics to determine if the pet pig falls within the standards of a purebred potbellied pig. There is no charge to the Shelter or Sanctuary for this service.
The total net earned income by NPPR will be distributed among all participating Potbellied Pig Shelters and Sanctuaries in the form of an Annual Grant. The number of approved Temporary Registration applications submitted by each shelter or sanctuary during a calendar year determines the amount of each grant. The grants are calculated as follows: A percentage will be assigned to the approved Temporary Registration applications submitted by a given shelter and/or sanctuary. This percentage is in relationship to the total applications of all shelters and sanctuaries during the same calendar year. The total net income of NPPR will then be divided according to the assigned percentage of each shelter and sanctuary. NPPR will mail a check directly to each shelter or sanctuary for its calculated percentage of the net profit at the end of each calendar year.
NPPR provides a method by which their previously unregistered potbellied pigs can be registered. Individual Pet Owners who face community ordinance/ zoning restrictions or just wish to have a registration certificate for their pet pig can utilize NPPR. NPPR will evaluate each pig's conformational characteristics plus age, weight and height statistics to determine if the pet pig falls within the standards of a purebred potbellied pig. All pet pigs seeking registration as a potbellied pig must be neutered or spay prior to receiving a permanent potbellied pig registration. Should a pet owner receive a NPPR Temporary Registration from a participating shelter/sanctuary, the pet owner must provide proof that the pig has been neutered or spay prior to obtaining Permanent Registration.
Only Breeders who are committed to excellence in the raising of the potbelly pig and supporting the new owners of their pigs should avail themselves of this registry service. NPPR has set up a method by which potbelly pig owners can file an owner complaint against a specific breeder, should the need arise. Upon three written, verified and non-reconciled complaints within a one calendar year, the National Potbellied Pig Registry reserves the right to revoke the breeder's registration privileges. Also, should NPPR determine that any request for Litter application by the breeder is fraudulently submitted, NPPR reserves the right to revoke the breeder's registration privileges.
NPPR will not register any Potbelly Litter should the sow be under 7 months of age at time of conception of the litter. NPPR will not register any Potbelly Litter that is line bred (A sow and a boar that are related closer than 4 generations).
